Message Basically you want pressure to be much lower on the outside of the hood than the inside. You already have that achieved through air temperature and the speed/volume of air flowing over the hood, but since the vent gets smaller as it gets closer to the top, that puts pressure on it the closer it gets to the exit.
To reduce that pressure a little bit, he could run the mesh all the way around the edges of the vent (rather than using fiberglass to close off the sides of the vents), and weld a couple posts at the corners of the vent to hold them open and create/reinforce structure.

Not sure if it would really work or not, but it is an idea.

Another way to fix it would be to just make the cutout squared off and use fiberglass to fill the part that is missing as a result.
